On one of the days, we visited the fish market in Dar. Since
Dar is right on the coast, fishing is a huge source of income for people. Most
people go out fishing early in the morning and then continue onto the fish
market where fish is sold and often times even auctioned off. We had to be very
careful there because there are a lot of pickpocketers that follow us around so
our Swahili professor, Paulo, made sure to stay behind us so that he could keep
an eye on everyone’s things. Luckily we had no problems. We got to see a lot of
really cool fish, squid, and lobsters at the fish market. The lobsters were so
beautiful. It’s kind of sad to think that such a beautiful animal is eaten so
commonly around the world. Although we saw a lot of cool stuff, I was glad to
leave the fish market because the smell was just way too overpowering for me!
